CRAVE 3 Begins!
Creating Resources for Artist Vision & Engagement
Convergence and the Torpedo Factory Arts Center are proud to announce CRAVE #3 on Saturday March 28th 2015 from 5pm to 8pm.
CRAVE is a community micro granting dinner designed to promote dialogue about the value of art in your community. In addition, grant money is given away on the spot to an artist’s project voted on by the participants. “It’s an extremely empowering experience for both the artist and the patrons” says Lisa Smith, Artistic Director of the Convergence Arts Initiative and pastor of the Church at Convergence. “We determine our own criteria for the projects we feel are important to our community and have the satisfaction of making an immediate impact.”

Not only do those who receive funds from the event (CRAVE 1 and 2 gave $1000 grants each) walk away pleased but all who enter their proposals have the chance to gain additional backing, resources and connections. After the last CRAVE dinner a man walked up to one of the participants with his check book open ready to become a new supporter right then and there.
But it isn’t just about the money. All the artists are encouraged to make the rounds and talk with diners. The encouragement and questions the artists receive can be just as beneficial as the potential financial reward. Diners too, receive benefit. “It’s a great opportunity to meet new people in our neighborhood and talk about something interesting and important. We get to be a part of something together” said local arts patron Rita Hadley.
