CRAVE 4 Proposal 4 – Wounded Warrior
“Art can be an excellent coping mechanism” says Joan Woodhall, “it can relieve stress, allow you to have an outlet for all the things swirling around in your head, it can be a release from the many problems in one’s live, it can be a comfort in times of need.” Joan’s project will focus on art as a form of therapy for soldiers and their families through the Wounded Warrior Project.
Joan has worked with the Wounded Warrior Project for a while, and they have shown interest in expanding their work together with Joan. The goal of Joan’s project will be to help those participating find an outlet for stress. The money from the CRAVE grant would go towards art supplies and an exhibit space to display the art of the participants.
Joan is a local artist and mother of two who has been marking art since she was 12 years old. She is a member of the Bin Gallery at the Torpedo Factory, and many other art organizations in the area. Her carvings will be exhibited in Bethesda Maryland from March to May 2016.
