CRAVE Proposal 2: Materialized Magic: Mythical Creatures in a Yarn Bomb Habitat by Erika Cleveland and Stacy Cantrell

Our second proposal comes from unique medium artists Erika Cleveland and Stacy Cantrell. Materialized Magic is a mixed medium collaborative community fiber art project. Combining crocheting, knitting, and felting, the artists will bring the community together through creation.
Erika and Stacy’s project idea consists of weekly structured “Yarn Bomb” sessions, where fiber artists will come together and work in different mediums to create a collective habitat.
The community benefit of the project is many layers deep, the first benefit being free lessons for the community. Because of the wide scope of this project, there is a part for artists of every level from beginner to expert in each medium, crocheting, knitting, and felting. The second benefit is artist recognition, everyone who participates will be included in the final production and artists who show great merit will be featured along with the key artists. The final benefit is that leftover materials and supplies will be donated to the community through nursing homes, community centers, and non-profit organizations.
Erika Cleveland is an associate artist at Torpedo Factory and creates healing dolls. Stacy Cantrell is a free form crochet artists who’s yarn bombs have been featured in galleries and museums.
The budget for this project will be focused on the purchase of materials and supplies, so that once the project begins all classes, sessions, and materials will remain free for the participants, encouraging involvement.
