Finding Silence to Hear When Deep Calls Deep

Leaves falling and colder weather remind us that Autumn is a season for letting go, slowing down and attending to our deeper needs. But, with so many responsibilities and distractions it can be hard to do this alone. Carving out time and space to be fully present and contemplative can be a challenge. Having a structure available to just “walk into” can be the key to getting the time we need to “check in” with ourselves and God so we have something to give to others. This fall, Convergence is focused on the theme of “Attending.” Artist, Julie Shelton Snyder defines “attending” this way;
“Attending means waiting and listening and, maybe most of all, longing. Attending involves being still, as still as a mountain, allowing all kinds of weather to pass me by. Attending requires patience and trust, trust that God has something to say to me. I must be still in order to hear it.”
At the core, attending is about being present, open and available to whatever is right in front of us – whatever needs our attention.
We are embarking on this season of attending together through a new exhibit, regular guest led Sunday workshops and creative worship experiences, Thursday contemplative prayer opportunities and a series of art and contemplative practice sessions led by Kathy Prudden once a month on Monday night.
We invite you to allow these offerings to be the framework you need to help you enter into this season with thoughtfulness and reflection. Our prayer is that as we adopt these practices we gain a greater capacity for loving interaction with ourselves and one another. Please take a look our events page on our website to get more information and plan your visit! We would love to share this journey with you.
